Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to my personal webpage. I am an assistant professor at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology. My Evolution, Cell Biology, and Symbiosis Unit studies eukaryote-bacteria symbioses and deep evolutionary questions. Before moving to Japan, I was a European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Patrick Keeling at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada). I did my PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology and Genetics (Institute of Parasitology, Czech Academy of Sciences) under the supervision of John McCutcheon (University of Montana, USA).

Apart from science, I enjoy traveling, hiking, backpacking, back-country skiing (yes, anything outdoors), homebrewing, all types of maps, surreal humor and literary nonsense, and photography.
